Sitting atop the picturesque Gumstool Hill in the Cotswold town of Tetbury, we were delighted to be part of the restoration team transforming this crumbling Grade II Listed former artist’s studio into a traditional townhouse with a contemporary twist. Replacing a thrown together timber extension to the rear of the house with a contemporary, full height glazed crittall curtain wall created an explosion of light opening into a private stone courtyard. A new oak staircase was designed to sit quietly in the corner of the newly formed dining room, while the small dark kitchen was transformed by the installation of a second glazed internal crittall door and screen allowing a seamless through-flow into the dining room. The careful adjustment of floors between the first and second floor created the most spectacular master bedroom suite in which the ancient historic timber beams have become an outstanding feature.
